“Each brushstroke is an explosion of emotion and color” - Tomas Garcia

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Standing before Tomás García’s art is like watching spring emerge through the crust of a late winter snow.

His paintings evoke a fresh sense of urgency, an abandonment of the common sense of order, a memory concealed by the disciplines of the season. Strikes of color transforming the figurative representations into an emotional dialogue with the observer. The use of color in his work pushes all feelings out, shameless, bravery, vulnerarius.

Tomás García was born in Caracas Venezuela (April 1969-). He studied at “Arte Pueblo” School of Art and at the “Art Center” in Miami. A young boy growing up in Venezuela, loving sports and visual arts. Tomás was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates at 17 and his development as an artist occurred parallelly to his professional career in baseball, body building and martial arts; all requiring strict regimens of structure and discipline. While one may initially see his painting as a total departure from what defines an athlete, structure and discipline are in fact an inexhaustible wellspring of the virtues nurtured by it.

"The explosion of color in my art is inspired by my life experiences. As a boy, I anxiously studied a tree of mangoes ripening from green to scarlet red and then golden yellow," García shares. He can visualize the baseball stadium roar into color with each crack of a bat.

"Subconsciously, the intensity in which I apply paint onto the canvas is often a manifestation of an emotion or my feelings attached to an experience. Each painting is born of an authentic idea, a vision, or a memory in my life. I started painting as a child -inspired by my uncle, who was an artist too- the texture of my Father's guiding hand, the adoration of my younger brother, the warmth of my Mother's lips against my forehead, the innocence in the eyes of my niece. Memories connect me to the canvas and allow me to paint organically, inviting the viewer into my own reality."

Tomás García has participated in auctions with The Best Buddies Foundation, Exhibitions with the LGBTQ+ Community and several privates shows.

"Bodybuilding taught me that discipline is an aesthetic and perfection is subjective. My martial arts training keeps me grounded in my own reality," he confesses. His somewhat existentialist philosophy has fostered García's emergence onto the art scene with a body of passionate, sincere work that has a raw sense of self-awareness.
